Google Maps for Mobile 2.2

Google announced the release of Google Maps for Mobile 2.2 for over 40 cities in North America, including Vancouver. This service allows you to get public transit information to your mobile (for certain devices only), including transit options and directions, estimated times, first and last buses of the day. You can use the satellite view to zoom in and see the bus stop location when you’re not quite sure where the stop is.

The service builds on the Google Maps Public Transit initiative, which allows you to plan a trip using public transportation from your desktop. The new mobile version offers a few extra features that are useful when you’re already  on the road, such as finding out the last transit trips of the day, and browsing through earlier or later trips.

Here’s a quick (1:53) video walkthough of Google Maps Mobile 2.2:

Kudos to TransLink for working with Google to make this happen.
